Project Name
Ecological assessment of Inland open water fisheries population with bio-physicochemical properties to frame EBFM approach
Details

Background

  1. Kaptai Lake was created in 1961 by damming the River Karnaphuli at Kaptai,
  2. The reservoir covers 68,800 ha at full supply level with an average depth of 9 m.
  3. This lake is accounting for 46.8% of the total pond area of Bangladesh (Ahmed, 1999).
  4. Kaptai lake supplies fish production about 12,695 MT and catch/area is 185kg/ha (DoF, 2019).

Job description

1.To assess bio-physicochemical properties of waters with the seasonal variation.

2.To estimate population ecology of some commercially significant resident fishes of Kaptai Lake

3.To assess stock of commercially significant resident fishes through using modern software packages based on catch and CPUE data

4.To assist for framing or formulating ecosystem based management approach of Kaptai lake with emphasizing to increase productivity and conservation of fisheries resources.
